Nathan Lukes, DDS has been providing family dental care in Anchorage since assuming the established practice of Dr. Ralph Feriani in 2003. He and his staff strive to provide modern, high quality dentistry in an unhurried manner, just as we we would like to have our own family treated. Dr. Lukes attends several continuing education courses annually to remain abreast of current developments in dentistry and judiciously applies advances in the field to his daily practice of dentistry. Our office utilizes state of the art electronic records and digital x-rays, which provide clear information and significantly reduced x-ray exposure to our patients. Many of our patients comment on the larger x-ray images visible on our monitors which can be easier for them to understand. Our office focuses on general family dentistry and utilizes a network of excellent specialists available in our community to provide specialized treatments when needed, again, just as we would want a member of our family treated. Our staff is knowledgeable, professional, and most importantly, kind. We look forward to helping you and your family obtain and maintain the smile you desire.
Originally from the community of Lynden, Washington, Dr. Lukes graduated from nearby Western Washington University with a degree in Cellular and Molecular Biology. Following graduation, he was offered a position with the Howard Hughes Medical Institute in Seattle, where he had the good fortune to become acquainted with the University of Washington Dental School. He soon became a full-time dental student and graduated from the University of Washington in 1998. Dr. Lukes, his wife and two young daughters then moved to Bethel, Alaska for “a two year adventure” working in Bush Alaska with the Indian Health Service. As Dr. Lukes grew to enjoy the people and unique challenges of Bush Alaska, his two year trip to the Bush, quickly became five years, and their family’s Alaskan adventure continues to this day.
In 2003, Dr. Lukes relocated his growing family to Anchorage and assumed the longstanding general dental practice of Dr. Ralph Feriani. In addition to his private practice, Dr. Lukes maintains hospital privileges at the Alaska Native Medical Center where he also sees patients part-time. This hospital affiliation remains an interesting part of his professional life and it also allows for occasional travel to Bush Alaska to provide dental care in field settings. In that same vein, Dr. Lukes has traveled as a volunteer to Vietnam on multiple occasions to provide care to the underserved. Although the third-world field clinic conditions are quite modest, this has proven to be a very fulfilling part of his dental practice.
When not practicing dentistry, Dr. Lukes, his wife and four daughters can be found skiing near their home in Girdwood. The family enjoys hiking, fishing, and generally exploring the outdoors. Dr. Lukes is always interested in meeting new Alaskans and hearing of new and interesting things to see and do in our great state.
Originally from Australia and later Kentucky, Dr. Wilson has traveled far and wide before settling in Anchorage in 2013.
Dr. Wilson obtained her Bachelor’s degree in Biology from Warren-Wilson College in North Carolina and then her Doctor of Dental Medicine degree from the University of Louisville. During her dental training, Dr. Wilson worked with remote and underserved populations in rural Kentucky and Belize. These experiences led her to bush Alaska where she and her husband spent 2 years as staff dentists serving at the Yukon-Kuskokwim Delta Regional Hospital in Bethel and in surrounding villages before moving to Anchorage in 2013. It was through this common background and many mutual friends that Dr. Lukes first came to know Dr. Wilson. This similar career path and outlook promises to make Jennifer an especially good fit with our practice. She has also traveled to the highest dental clinic in the world in the Himalayan village of Namche, Nepal where a mutual friend of Jenn and Dr. Lukes started an outreach clinic several years ago. Dr. Wilson continues to work part-time at the Alaska Native Medical Center and travels for dental field trips to bush locations on the Aleutian Chain and in Western Alaska.
In addition to her work-life, Dr. Wilson has a 1 year old son at home and her husband is currently in an Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Residency in Detroit. Dr. Wilson splits her time between Detroit and Anchorage. She looks forward to having a more peaceful life when her husband completes his 4 year training program in 2017 and returns to his position with ANMC here in Anchorage.
In her free time Dr. Wilson enjoys baking, training for triathalons, and equestrian events. Most of all she enjoys hanging out under the midnight sun with her beautiful family and their dogs.
Originally from a small rural town in Tennessee, Dr. MacArthur earned his Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Engineering with a double major in Theological Studies from Saint Louis University. Soon thereafter he attended the Arizona School of Dentistry & Oral Health earning a dual degree with a Doctorate of Medical Dentistry (DMD) and Masters in Public Health (MPH) in 2013. After graduation from dental school he pursued a one year Advanced Education in General Dentistry residency through the Air Force which allowed him to expand his clinical knowledge and skill set in all aspects of dentistry.
During and after dental school Dr. MacArthur participated in several dental humanitarian trips to remote and underserved areas of Alaska, Arizona, Uganda and the Dominican Republic. Dr. MacArthur’s experience in bush Alaska left such a lasting impression on him that he decided to move to here in 2014. It was through this common background of working in bush Alaska and mutual friends that Dr. Lukes first came to know Dr. MacArthur. This similar career path and outlook on dentistry promises to make Robert an especially good fit with our practice. In addition to working in our office, Dr. MacArthur continues to travel to remote areas of Alaska to provide much needed dental care throughout the year.
Dr. MacArthur enjoys practicing all aspects of dentistry including pediatric dentistry, fixed prosthodontics (crowns and bridges), IV and oral sedation, dental surgery including wisdom teeth extractions, dental implants, cosmetic dentistry to include veneers and teeth whitening, urgent care dentistry, orthodontics, root canals, and adjunctive treatments for patients who suffer from obstructive sleep apnea, snoring, severe grinding/bruxism and TMJ pain. He enjoys working on patients of all ages including children, special needs patients and patients with dental phobias. A personal connection with his patients and coworkers, an appreciation of honest, ethical work, and excellent patient outcomes are the guiding principles he uses in his approach and practice of dentistry.
Dr. MacArthur enjoys balancing work with spending time with family and friends, practicing yoga, hiking and camping throughout Alaska, gardening, renovating his home, traveling, reading, personal/spiritual development, and going on international dental humanitarian trips as well as participating in local community service opportunities such as the Alaska Mission of Mercy.
